Diane Keaton: style icon?

OK so here's the thing: Diane Keaton's style in the movie Annie Hall gobsmacked me at the very right time in my life: high school. Without the financial resources to keep up with the other girls I fully embraced the Goodwill-Chic look depicted by Ms Keaton in that movie. That was, unfortunately, 35 years ago. The baggy layered look has legs, as you can see, and can be updated to stay modern but also smacks of the abandonment of any attempts to look current and sexy.

These outfits are fine and decorous. Gotta be careful not to flounder into frumpiness though. An example:

OMG. See? gotta be careful.

I think the key is to select quality pieces, be careful with big patterns, and make liberal use of a big belt to define your waist. I still find this look to be comfortable and wearable. Love the hats: they are warm and can be fun if you don't go insane with them and they help define the style.

Diane Keaton Style gets the Queen's seal of cautious approval.
