why do our brains do this to us?

Is it just me, or does everyone get obsessed? I think obsession with a subject can be a good thing if it involves some sort of productive end. However, the sort of obsession I suffer from causes all synapses in my brain to focus on one silly thing. Almost at the expense of anything else! It is ridiculous and a waste of intellectual activity. However I can not control it, and nothing feels so good as to give in to it...to wallow in the obsession. I can sit and wallow without blinking for hours and it has to stop.

When I was younger similar things happened. When I had too much input my brain would shut off and I would zombie walk throughout my life. This was not good either but is almost preferable to this incessant brain activity on one stupid thing! I can only hope that it will fade away. Soon.
